Volunteer Opportunities
Milk and Pizza Program
School council runs several fundraising programs each year. Many are theme events and run annually or bi-annually depending on availability of volunteers and the needs of projects that require funding. A steady source of funding comes from the Pizza and Milk programs run at the school every week during the school year. This program is run largely by parents who volunteer their time during the lunch hour to manage it with the wonderful help of students. Volunteers are always needed and this provides an opportunity to be present at the school during the day. Parents with pre-school children are welcome to bring their children along during this time.
Breakfast Program
The breakfast program is run by parent and staff volunteers on school premises. Volunteers are always needed to purchase the necessary food items for this program. Yogurt, cheese, and fresh fruit are available for students.
Fun Fair
The Fun Fair is the main event hosted by the school to mark the beginning of the school year. It is planned by council but requires close coordination with teachers, administrator and the board, along with numerous community groups and entertainment providers. This functions both as a fundraiser and as an opportunity to bring the Holy Cross community together. Planning for the event starts early and new volunteers and fresh ideas are always welcome and in need.
I Chose It Myself
Every fall the school collects small items from parents - knick-knacks, small gifts, items that one would normally find at various yard sales. These items are then set up a few weeks before the Christmas break in the gymnasium. All of the children are then given the opportunity to go and, purchase a gift for their family members. Children experience the fun of selecting a special gift (which, if they can contain the excitement, might actually make it, unopened, to Christmas day) for their loved ones at Christmas. Volunteers are always needed to help staff this event, by helping children with the selection of gifts and wrapping them for Christmas.
Classroom - Library Helpers
If you can spare 1-2 hours a week, your help is needed to assist teachers to prepare learning materials, read with children, and/or help in the school library. Please contact the school for more information.
